The Name Skaði

Our name is inspired by Skaði, the formidable giantess-goddess of Norse mythology—associated with bow-hunting, skiing, winter, and the mountains.

In the myths, Skaði quests to avenge her father’s death and travels to Asgard armed and determined. In recognition of her strength, the gods offer to compensate her—with the notable allowance that she select a husband by looking only at their feet; she chooses the sea god Njörðr, yet their marriage fails due to their differing affinities for mountain versus sea life.

Beyond her narrative, Skaði embodies striking values—**independence**, **resilience**, and **self-determination**—thriving alone in rugged winter landscapes with her skis, bow, and snowshoes.

Geographically, her name may be connected to the roots of “Scandinavia” or to Old Norse words meaning “shadow” or “harm,” further anchoring her in the stark northern world and its traditions.

Choosing the name **Skaði** signals our commitment to **unfettered independence**—like her, we champion autonomy, courage, and building resilient foundations even in challenging environments. It also reflects our northern heritage and values: strength, clarity, and the empowering beauty of independence.
